3 +1 of the most interesting tourist routes in Liptov

In the Liptov region you will find approximately 50 hiking trails with a total length of almost 11,200 km. They are located in the Western Tatras (part of the High Tatras National Park), the Low Tatras National Park, the Veľká Fatra National Park and the Choč Mountains.

1. Prosiecka and Kvačianska Valley Nature Trail.  

Prosiecka Valley and Kvačianska Valley are among the most popular tourist destinations in Liptov and at the same time the most beautiful valleys in all of Slovakia. The elevation gain is only 319 m and the difficulty is very moderate. The whole day hike is easy and can be done by recreational tourists and children, but it is quite long and measures up to 16,5 km in total. If you are really just a recreational tourist (or rather non-tourist) or this is your very first hike with small children, we recommend going on only part of this hike - to Kvačianska Valley.

The Prosiecka and Kvačianska Valley Nature Trail is NATIONAL NATURE PRESERVE. The starting point is the village of Prosiek. The beginning of the route is characterized by its diversity. You will find high rock walls, waterfalls and other natural beauties. The Gate – the entrance to the Prosiek Valley, which is formed by two rock walls facing each other, is impressive.

The dominant features of the Kvačianska Valley There are two water mills open to the public. They are located in the part of the Kvačianska Valley called Oblazy. The place is ideal for a lunch break and because of the photogenic mills and scenery, we definitely recommend a photo break.

The entire Prosiecka and Kvačianska valleys are beautiful, with enchanting nature and views that are worth seeing. If you had to choose only one tourist destination in Liptov, we recommend Kvačianska valley.

2. Flat

The beauty of hiking in Liptov is that you don't have to perform at a high level, overcome huge elevations, and climb rocky peaks like you know from the High Tatras. Hiking can also be relaxing, undemanding, more like walking and sightseeing. 

A tip for a less demanding route ideal for families with children is Ploská (1,532 m above sea level) in the Veľká Fatra. The starting point is the village of Liptovské Revúce. The total length of the route is 11 km and the elevation gain is 820 m if you follow the yellow, easiest route.

Along the route, you will find meadows dotted with flowers, pastures, a sheepfold and sheep, which will be especially appealing to children. You will find a flat surface great view of other mountains Čierny kameň and Rakytov.

3. Ostredek Lookout Tower

If you have accommodation in Liptov or directly in Demänovská Valley and you want to see the beauties of Demänovská Valley from a different perspective, visit Lookout tower on Ostredok.

You can find the lookout tower in a place where you can enjoy the beauty of the Low Tatras nature like in the palm of your hand. Two-story The lookout tower is approximately 7 m high. Thanks to its ideal location, you will be captivated by beautiful views, panoramas and the most famous hills of Chopok and Ďumbier from every side. Lookout Tower is a place worth visiting at any time of the year.

You will see the lookout tower now. from the parking lot in Jasná – part of the Biela Púť. From the parking lot you will set off following the yellow tourist sign, which leads across the entire Ostredka ridge. At a very moderate pace, you can reach the lookout tower in about 20-30 minutes.

If you would like to extend your walk through the Tatra nature, you can continue following the yellow tourist sign, which will take you to the SNP monument, symbolic cemetery and other interesting places.

Merudnica, 1549 m above sea level, is one of the symbols of Liptov. From its peak, in good weather, you will be offered an unforgettable view, where you will have the whole of Liptov in the palm of your hand.

The starting point of the hike is the popular Liptovsky Jan. The entire route is a little over 9 km long. According to the signs, you can complete it in 5 hours. Although it is of medium difficulty, you should expect a rugged route and an elevation gain of almost 900 m. The more challenging terrain and a decent climb will definitely make up for it. panoramic views of Liptov – Liptovská Mara, the Western Tatras, as well as interesting rock formations along the entire route or a cave in which several dozen Slovak and Polish Jews hid during World War II.
