The Vlkolínec nature trail is an ideal way to get to know this unique UNESCO monument and its surroundings. The route offers a combination of cultural heritage and natural beauty, while also providing views of the surrounding landscape. These routes combine cultural heritage with natural beauty and offer visitors the opportunity to discover Vlkolínec from different angles and perspectives. You can admire panoramic views of the Veľká Fatra, Sidorovo Hill and the surrounding valleys.
This is an easy walking circuit suitable for families with children, beginners, but also experienced nature lovers. It starts and ends in the village of Smrečany near the TJ Družba sports complex, which is located on the main road between Smrečany and Žiar. The total length of the route is approximately 4km and it will take you about 1,5 hours. Since the elevation gain is minimal, you can really handle it with children or strollers. You will cross a dirt road, meadows and as a reward you will have beautiful views of the Western Tatras and Baranec. However, you must get a map or GPS, because this trail is not marked with signs, so you don't get lost.
A hike to these peaks in the Low Tatras offers a unique combination of karst scenery, historical monuments, and magnificent views. Bonfire (1538m) is a significant mountain massif built mainly of limestone and dolomite. The summit part forms a karst plateau with chasms, screes, screes and sinkholes, which is bordered by steep cliffs and impressive rock galleries. Near the summit is located Great Ice Chasm (125m deep)) to Window – 10m high rock hole, which once served as the entrance to the cave. Access to the rock window and the Great Ice Abyss is restricted for nature conservation reasons limited. The Ohnišť peak itself offers one of the most beautiful views of the Low Tatras, including the Ďumbier and Chopok peaks.
Slemá is considered a historical place in the. It is a wooded rocky hill north of Ohnišť, separated from it by the Michalovský saddle. If you are wondering what makes it so interesting, in 1944 during the Slovak National Uprising a Soviet plane with a mixed Russian-Slovak crew crashed here, killing all 19 passengers. At the crash site there is a monument with the names of the victims and scattered wreckage of the aircraft. From the very top of Slemä there is a nice view of the main ridge of the Ďumbierské Low Tatras with the majestic Ďumber peak. Everywhere in the surroundings there are military artifacts such as bunkers that hide stories from the Second World War.
As for the hike, it starts in the village of Liptovský Ján near the Ďumbier hotel and is a moderately difficult path that leads through interesting natural and historical sites. It continues through Stanišovské sedlo to the peak of Slemá. From the peak it continues to Michalovské sedlo and then to the peak of Ohnišťa. The total length of the hike is approximately 20km with an elevation gain of around 1000m.
If you are looking for adventure in the heart of Liptov, a circular hike through the Prosiecka and Kvačianska valleys is exactly what you need. The combination of two gorges, waterfalls, ladders, rocky walls, traditional mills and breathtaking nature creates a unique experience that will test your stamina and sense of discovery.

Hike to Ploska (1532 m above sea level) in the Veľká Fatra is popular all year round, especially for its wide views, easy terrain and accessibility from Liptovské Revuce. The length of the route there and back is approximately 12,2 km and leads via the yellow tourist mark through the Sedlo Ploskaj to the top. It will take you approximately 5 hours. It will be a moderately difficult hike with a smooth climb, so it is better to leave the smallest children at home. From the top of Ploskaj you will have a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains: Low Tatras, Malá Fatra, Poľana, Veľká Fatra, Čierny kameň and Rakytov.
This is a very popular place in Demänovská Valley. It is a two-story wooden tower that offers beautiful views of the surrounding hills such as Chopok, Ďumbier, Dereše and Poľana. The route is ideal for families with children, seniors and anyone who wants to enjoy a short trip with beautiful views. The road to it leads from Biela Pút in the Jasná resort and continues along the yellow tourist trail that leads across the entire Ostredka ridge. The route itself is less than one kilometer long and takes about 20 minutes of leisurely walking. Panoramic photographs with descriptions of everything that can be observed from the lookout are placed on the trail of the tower. There is a picnic table and benches under the lookout tower, ideal for rest and relaxation.
How As a bonus, we also want to offer you a moderately difficult hike to Poludnica (1549m above sea level), which is one of the most beautiful high mountain hikes in the Low Tatras, offering panoramic views of Liptovská Mara, the West Tatras and Kriváň. The route leads through Liptovský Ján and the total circuit is about 9,2 km and takes about 5 hours. Right at the Ďumbier hotel you will join the green tourist mark, the path leads through the ski resort slopes, from where the first views of Liptov open up. You continue to the Rakytovica saddle, from where you will join the yellow mark towards Predná Poludnica. Along the way you will pass by the cave on Kamenné mlieko, known as the Jewish Cave. From Predná Poludnica you continue to the very top of Poludnica, from where you will have a magnificent view of the surrounding landscape. You will return back along the blue mark through Kúpeľ and then along the green mark to Liptovský Ján.
